Hi folks.....

This is my first post and indeed my first online club type thing experience...
I am very new to this hobby and in my 7mths of fishkeeping have learned(?) how not to keep my fish...
in this short period of time i have learned the effects of tetra disease, finrot, whitespot, overfeeding, plankton overkill, nitrite poisoning, nitrate poisoning, bacterial gut infections and probably numerous other issues which i am too inexperienced to identify   :(
Indeed the shops to which i have been turning to for advice have greatly benefited from my ineptitude and have had many sales begrudgingly made by myself in my ongoing battle to gain stability and happy healthy fish...
and so i turn to people who give advice freely without loading advice with the thoughts of future sales...
expect lots of seemingly stupid questions with aparently obvious answers BUT i will ask them nyway
thanks in advance for any advice i glean from you all!
God forbid i ever try a marine tank

Welcome C.C. to this site. I hope you will enjoy your time here. You don't tell us where you're from? Do tell.
There's a whole bunch of us that are as mad as hell, but we all share one thing in common and that is our passion for fishkeeping. What you have painfully experienced isn't new to many of us. Me included. You will encounter a whole new world within this forum and hopefully be that much richer for joining. Most of us have been there and have got the T-shirt, so you're in good hands. You'll hear strange words like cycling, Ph.Nitrates,Ammonia and new tank syndrome. The conversations can sometimes get quite heated as we have a passion for the fish we keep. So to start the ball rolling, you haven't told us what size your tank is or the type of fish you keep or the type of filtration you have. If you've tested your TANK water, what does it show? PH levels, Ammonia levels etc.etc. What kind of setup do you have? Before any of us can give you any diagnosis about your fishkeeping skills we will need to know some basics from you. So before you start.
WELCOME.

wow!
i post my first time..go reading the forum for an hour and i have a nice welcome already!
I come from the midlands U.k.....bout an hour north of birmingham...
My current setup:
3ft 30gallon
fluval filter
recently ditched all my plastic plants and replaced with real (names unknown...well.....they looked nice) and already a few days later i have a zero result with ammonia! and the nitrates are about 40ppm.
nitrites.non existant  :D
P.H seems ok.
ticking over at 78degrees

stocked with:
x5 guppies
x2mollies (1male 1female)
x5 xray tetras
x1 male fighter
x1 pleco
x1 angel (soul survivor of 4) seems v.peaceful and has never nipped!
x1male swordtail
x2 chocolate gouramis
x2 indian gouramis (?)

i think that just about puts the tank at its population limit.

yesterday i started a 2ft 15 gallon....upstairs cos the wife wont let me put it downstairs.....hehe
think il probably go for barbs in there......or dwarf cichlids...

long term i have convinced the wife that we need a 50gallon hexagonal so that i can get a few more angels (before the 1 in my 30galltank gets too big) so i'l be checking out what other fish i can put in with 4angels......

as soon as i work out how il be posting a pic of my 30gall...

thanx for the warm welcome.

Hi CptnChaos welcome to the extension of my life  I'm Davy webmaster to the main site and joint Admin for this forum.
Glad to have you here we hope to see you around loads this is a free loving, happy, sorry MAD community of fish keepers and alien hunters.

Feel free to post anywhere in all our current debates, theres a lot of reading  Oh and half the jokes stink so if you know any please post them. We have a chat on the main site, theres a forum in here showing you how to get there, and how to work it. If anyone pops in they post in the forum to let everyone know to pop in ;)
As for posting pictures. If you have them in the net already it's easy. Went posting, the edit window has buttons for bold italic etc. you'll find one for [image] click on it and a pop up window appears, just type in the address of the picture and it'll edit the text to include your pic.
Or if you want the main site has a members tanks area. Send me the pic and info and I'll add it. 8)
Oh thats about it I think. Hope to see you around :)

I found it to be an excellent story. This should be introduced to every new fishkeeper as a sort of warm welcome. This way they don't feel that the're isolated in dropping clangers. Or is that another world? Aliens maybe??

:D Hi CC, welcome to the Friendliest Fish Forum on the net. Remember everyone was a beginner once! Mac.

Captain, welcome to the site. Between us, we have probably made most mistakes you will run across, so don't be shy.
And don't let Davy's comments about my jokes fool you, I was a real comedian before the accident.... :look:

Welcome. We like to have a lot of fun and watch typo and do stick around to have a few bears (Sorry Davy had to do it. Bears was a typo for beers a couple of months ago.) As you can tell you never live a typo down here. If you need help with your Gouramies or you plants let me know. I'm the resident guru on both as well as barbs. Have fun and post often. Rose (wanna be certified nut case) 8)
