A local fish dtore has 2 huge arrowanas for sale. They must be at least 2 foot long each.
They are priced at £700 down to £150, i assume for one but is this just a con to make them look more fiscally attractive or are they really worth this much money?

Personally i think they look a little ugly, no offence to owners here, but the tank is only 4ft so could it be they just want rid of them quickly. I have no intention of buying them, im just curious to see what theyre worth.

Depends on the species.
A silver arowana or an australian (jardini) wouldnt be worth anywhere near £700, but if it were a chilli red or similar (any of the asian aros really..) it would most probably be worth £700 at 2 feet.

Hope this helps

if they were jardini then they would have killed each other buy no

if they were asian aros then they would be beat up bad with just 2 in a tank

so they are silver aros and to tell the truth even £150 is expencive as no one realy want to buy a 2ft silver aro thats more than likely got bad drop eye

silver aros are the only type you can keep 2 per tank

Cheers guys.

They are silver arowanas, oops forgot to mention that.

Silvers are never worth more than about £100, even for one in peak condition.

There is an Aquatics shop in Leith, Edinburgh that has 3 Red Arrowana for 600-100 quid each, they are about 2-3Ft long....

for that sort of money if they were real red asian aro at they size they would be worth £3k i would say they are 1.5 banjar red which you can buy at £225 for a 7inch

Just curious, how old would a 2 ft silver arowana be? And as long as I'm at it, how long would it take some of the other arowanas to reach that size?

silver aros on average from 5inch grow fast at 1-1.5inch per month until they reach 18inch then slow down a bit depending on tank size

the 1st 2yrs of an aros life they grow fast

My silver went from 8" to 2 feet in 9 months, the growth rate on them is amazing!!

I have a jardini that is around 20" and that took two years to reach 18" and then slowed right down so that any growth in length is barely noticeable, though it has got deeper and broader in the last year.

what minimum size tank would 2 silvers be comfortable in?

8x3 silver aros are a lot more bendy than other aros as the scales are smaller

a 4ft silver chould turn around easy in a 2ft wide tank so 8x3 would be OK and 8x4 would be perfect
