How would I redo a tank?

Hi! Ive been into the fish hobby for about two years and have two tanks. I was thinking of redoing my first 10g tank as it definitely could use some more natural hard scape and some plants. However, I still have Neon tetras in the tank. How should I go about redoing the tank? Would it be ok for me to simply clean new hard scape and place them in the tank with the tetras in it or should I buy a very small tank (or even use a bucket) as a temporary home for the tetras while I redo the tank? Thanks.

Hey! That sounds amazing! I’m sure your fish would love that! I’d recommend moving them to a bucket with some of the tank water and maybe a few decorations from the tank to ease the stress of the fish, that way while you’re redoing your tank they won’t be in the way and you don’t have to worry about anything falling and crushing them.

It's always easier to plant into damp or dry soil mixture if you plan on doing a carpet of baby tears or dwarf hairgrass for instance.
I've done a couple of wet do-overs and they are a pain in the butt, however my new build done from a new dry tank was a doddle and so satisfying
