Hello, I got some giant manzanita branches and im wondering what i need to do to remove the tannins and sand it down and stuff
one of them isI guess you could get some sanding paper and manually sand it all... But that depends on how big it actually is... As for tannins I wouldnt take them out, just do your normal water changes and eventually they'll go away...
How big is the piece of wood?
how do i sand it? is a sandingsponge a better idea than sandpaper?I guess you could get some sanding paper and manually sand it all... But that depends on how big it actually is... As for tannins I wouldnt take them out, just do your normal water changes and eventually they'll go away...

thanks the sandpaper breaks tho, how do i prevent thatI have used sandpaper on mine! It worked well. You can use branch snippers to chop off any unwanted bits, then sand it down smooth like the rest. I would get 180 grit sandpaper. Where did you get such beautiful manzanita!?
thanksNo, sand paper would work best due to its flexibility. A sanding sponge is very stiff... You can get the wood very well with sand paper.
LUCKIEST. If you do the rougher grit first you can get the harder bark off, then smooth it with the softer stuff. Mine was somewhat soft from being in my tanks, yours might be harder.thanks the sandpaper breaks tho, how do i prevent that
friends have 2 big manzanita bushes, part of one of them died naturally i think
thanks
i have an assortment pack of 80-200 grits so i think i could first use 100 then 180
Nice i will look that up100 grit emery cloth might work better for sanding the manzanita...It is more flexible than regular sand paper.
I like water proof. I will use water to softwn up the wood before i sandyou could use emery cloth sandpaper. It's more waterproof than regular sandpaper..comes in various grits
