Hi,

I've been having trouble with my swordtail fry. They have fin rot and it was suggested to me that I post in here asking people how to treat them?

I have them in my main tank. I just found out if raising fry it's best to have them in a separate tank...but since I am new to fish keeping I don't have a separate tank. I want to get my hands on one soon.

I am not sure if I should treat the fry with medication as I've read they are super sensitive. I was thinking of just doing more frequent water changes instead?? also I know salt is good for them.

I do have a pleco in the main tank as well....so the salt option is pretty much out of the question isn't it? Would maybe just sprinkling a tiny amount of salt just in the breeding net be ok?? Should I take them out and give them a salt bath? I just think that would stress them more??

Thanks!!!

I think it would be best if you just keep up the water changes. Or you might be able to add some melafix. I have used this medicine with fry before and with very good luck. What is the ph been staying at in your tank. And how often do you do water changes?? Frys shouldnt have fin rot Thier water should be kept extra clean. What is the ammonia and nitrites readings??
