Hey,

Its been a while since i've last posted.

Just wondering, does anyone know how i can tell the sex of a neon tetra? (Appearance wise).

I was told by the owner of our lfs that the females have a straight blue line and the males have a blue line with a kink in it. I wasn't sure if he was having me on, but I looked at my Neons and some do have straight lines and some have lines with a slight bend in them. :/

I'm sure it is the other way round.
the line would be distorted due to the eggs carried inside the female. :dunno:

I also believe the blue line is straighter in the males, but it should be immaterial. Females in good condition are obviously deeper in the body, and wider when viewed from above or from the front/back. Females also grow a little larger then males.

as said females are rounder & fatter round the belly - this makes their stripe appear to kink upwards about halfway along their bodies males are much sleeker & their stripes are straight. when you see the 2 sexes together its very easy to pick the difference.
