Hi All,

I am seriously considering move setting up a marine tank and ideally with the view of breeding clown fish at some point. I have only had FW tanks and will keep my 190 litre corner fw but would like a go with marine.

I have little space so the marine setup will need to be small and I have two spare tanks a 70 litre and 30 litre tank which I think is probably too small for marine? IS it possible to set up something with a small tank and relatively small budget? - will ebay and freeads most items.

If so, what would i need to convert one of these tanks to marine and how many fish could i keep?

Much help appreciated

breeding clowns is possible but can take sereral years for a pair to start spawning. the size of the tank depends on which type of clowns you want. you could use the small tanks as fry tanks if you were to get a pair spawning

I only have space for 1 tank and it needs to be relatively small (i.e less than 80 litres). What can I have with this? And if clowns breeding would not work in soemthing so small - could i have just a small simple marine set up...?

yeah you could probably keep a pair of small occelaris clowns in there. few soft corals. you need to decide what you want so we can hwlp with equipment

Something very basic. 4/5 fish, minimal and cheaper and easy to maintain. can i do it with just one tank and no sump? what more do i need ontop of the tank and fresh water equipment i have? also what are approximate costs on equipment? sand? water - will tap be okay?

A pair of clowns require a minimum of 20 gallons, 94 litres - I wouldn't keep them in anything less than 25 uk gallons.

It is however possible to slowly buy the equipment looking out for bargains, most of us have to do it that way :good:

If you bought or had a tank of approx 94 litres you could probably keep a pair of clowns and a couple of small fish
