How to sex corys

i found this in a book lying around the house...

"Females are larger and fuller. Males are noticeable smaller. It helps to view them from above. The female will be noticeably wider. Also, underneath the female will have a whitish patch where the eggs are held. If you catch them breeding, you can be sure of their sexes. The female will be the one carrying the egg around."

hope it helps

how do you sex cories?
A little soft music, dim the lights, ply them with a nice merlot...they're yours.

Hi fozzy_wozzy_woo :)

Also, the female will have larger and rounded pectoral fins, while the male's will be more pointed. These are the ones she uses to carry the eggs during spawning.

The easiest way to tell, however, is by size. If you have a group of mature corys, the females will clearly be longer and chunkier.

BTW, if you are planning to put corys in your big tank, be sure to use a fine gravel or sand on the bottom to avoid damage to their barbels.

Thanks for that.. I will. Im going to put a thich layer of gravel then larger stones in.

My cories at the moment like to rest on the tops of the stones. with every thing suspended except their bellies??? wierd its like they like to balance on the stones with one point of contact to the ground.
