I am doing a DIY Co2 Fire extinguisher. Got all the parts from Hong Kong, got everything I need, so it seemed until today when I was putting it all together. I purchased this item.

CO2 Regulator Dual Gauged Solenoid Magnetic Valve A153

The plug is an USA plug and they did not supply an UK adaptor for it. I can get the adaptor for £6 from Argos, but it being Easter Sunday, everywhere is closed. So is there a way to cut the plug off and just put an UK plug on, allowing me to complete the installation today and saving me £6. The only problem being is that both wires are Black, one has white writing on. Anyone know whats live and whats neutral on these things? anyone done this before?

The £6 pound aint a big issue just wanted to hook it all up today.

First thing is make sure its 230-240v as voltage in the US is lower.

The link on my post says

Integrated 110/220V Solenoid (Magnetic) Electrical Valve (improved quality, more durable and reliable) (suit 110V or 220-220V electricity supply)
so im hoping its 220v for the UK as thats what it was bought as.

It also says on the listing that

The thread is made according to UK, Europe, Japan and Taiwan standard (JIS m22-14), 22mm in diameter.
We only ship locally in UK.
so not really suitable for the american market.

got it all setup ready to go, looks like a trip to Argos tomorrow as no one knows how to do this it seems :(

if it is '220v', then snip the old plug and re wire to english plug. There won't be an earth though.

OP can't distinguish the wires though, as they're both black, I've had a look on the net and I can't find anything.

ooops sorry, if you can't tell then leave well alone and go to argos tomorrow.

yes, think I will wait, rather spend the £6 then ruin it. Just was getting a bit impatient today as I was cleaning the tank and then set all the co2 stuff up. Was only asking on the off chance that someone here had ordered one of these and done it before.

Thanks anyway guys. :good:

if it has the plug on it, it should have a fat and thin prong. I believe one is live one is negative... I googled , fat=negative thin=positive.

TBH though I never thought it mattered with AC, but I don't replace plugs regularly. I've done a few though. For radios and fish equipment. Just connect the wires which ever way and it always works... I know not all plugs have the two different sized prongs though, sometimes they are the same. When they are the same they can be plugged in either way and work, with the two different prongs they can only be plugged in one way.

The prongs were both the same

Well I decided to bite the bullet and cut the USA 2 prong plug off and rewire it to a UK 3 pin plug and it worked :good: saved myself a whopping £6

for anyone else who buys one these units from Honk Kong/China, I wired the black wire with white writing on it to the live/fused on a UK plug, the plain black wire went to the nuetral. They both look the same except one has some faint writing in white and this is the one that went to live.

Thanks to the guides on here, I now have a presuurised FE co2 system for just a little over £100 :hey:
