Hi all,
any tips on removing the brace bars?
I have run a stanley knife along the edge and peeled about 30cm off in 1hr. Does it take this long? Even still When i have removed the excess around the edge off, how do I get the silicone trapped between the brace bar/ glass pane?
I tried gettinbg a stanley between and ended up snapping the blade.

Thanks, Aaron.

Heat is your friend, use a heat gun along with the razor knife. This will help soften the silicone, making removal easier. It's still a lot of work.

Thanks, I managed to get them off by removing all the excess silicone around the edges, then moving them up and down until I got enough leeway to get the stanley down the back.
I was scared stiff through the whole process lol.

Just need to remove the bits that are stuck on now.

Thanks, Aaron

Aaron, I'm fairly sure you already know this but posting more for anyone else who reads this :). Be careful when removing brace bars if you don't plan to replace them. They are there to stop the glass on the tank bowing when filled with water and removing them can cause damage to the tank. Not so bad on small tanks but on larger tanks it is really not recommended.

xxBarneyxx sorry about the quote. for some reason i cant edit this post.

cheers, this is for a 60l tank that will only be half full anyway, as it is going to be a riparium:

They wasnt really bracing the tank anyway, there was just a piece of glass attached to the front pane, and one on the back, (not touching any other panel).

they were there more for balancing something on. Not sure if it did help but did seem like a waste of money to me, compared to a piece that runs from from to back.

Thanks, Aaron
