OK NOW U CAN GO TO PAGE 2 INSTEAD

yea i am wondering if it would be ok if i could switch off my filter at night before i sleep.
the guy in the petshop actually told me to do this
do the fish mind or not
and if the fish have no problem, as the water is still will algae grow, or will the water smell as it is still for about 8 hours every day...

and how do you reduce the noise a filter makes

advice appreciated

filter MUST be left on all teh time - otherwise the bacteria will die.

ok...but once the tank has matured then can i leave the filter off. or i always have to keep it on...
and does anyone know a way how to reduce the noise

No it MUST be on constantly, all the time always apart from cleaning. Is it fully submerged?

yeah it is fully submerged...and do you know how to reduce the noise it creates...its not that bad but it is annoying

and i read on another post that if you aim the output of the filter upwards so that it creates a ripple then the noise would be less or is there a better method?

Hmmm.... I've never found a filter so noisy it bothers me - even in the bedroom, if it is fully submerged then that's probably the quietest it gets.

there is about 2 cm from the top of the filter to the surface of the water... if i put it lower the air not reach the output and the filter only pushes water

What sort of noise does it make, is it a rattle or a buzzing or a hum???

and yes agree, if you tell us the make and model of the filter that would help.

Also have you checked the impeller? could be that as it is rotating round.

I thought that filters are only supposed to put water and not air (unless they have a airline attachment to suck air from the surface). Maybe that the problem, should the filter be fully submerged?
