i have guppies since the aug of 2003, but i have no idea why they won't breed >.< anyone know how? i have tried changing water and giving diff kinds of food, but it still won't work >.< -_-

all i do is have a female in the tank.make sure you bump the temp over a few days to about 78 or 80, and have atleast 2 females for every male, and you should have fry in a month or so.

are you sure the female just isn't eating the babies? even if you have a trap, it's still possible for the babies to swim up while curiously

Hi cutie_dinokun :)

It's unusual for guppies to not breed if there are at lease one of each sex in the tank. -_-

It's more likely that the fry are being eaten or being sucked into the filter. What other fish are in the tank with the mother?

I agree with inchworm that the fry must be dissappearing. When i didnt know fry would be easily eaten by other fish, i was only finding 1 or maybe 2fry at a time from each female. Especially after giving birth, the mother is VERY hungry, even fish as small as neons i have seen will eat the fry as well  so have a good eye out for them. Some will hide very close to the bottom of the tank(possibly by plants), while others will rest at the top of the tank by the walls.

Why hasn't anyone asked if the guppy ever got bigger and developed a gravid spot?

Anywho, these answers are all possible and quite probable. The fry could also be burrowed under the gravel, but they were probably eaten before that could happen.

Yes i have had guppies for 4 years male and female and never had any guppy fry untill i got a breeding trap for the females to give birth in. :D I now have over 30 fry!

hello! thanks for all the replies!! =)
yes, there are females and males in the tank, and my females never got bigger/fatter, so i'm pretty sure that they were never preganat >.< i'll try to bump the temp up for a few days! but just to make sure, i have catfishes and glo-lite tetras in the tank as well, so will the high temp. harm them? Thanks!!
