Hello! My fairy shrimp recently hatched and I would like to use some green Water to feed them.
How would I make it without fertiliser? It gets really hot here as well, 100 degrees + most days
also what else could they eat?

Just leave a bucket of water out in the sun. I have a very small ‘bucket’ of rain for my cat to drink from and it goes green in a few days of sunshine.

does it need to be dechlorinated water?
will tap water or RO water work?

Actually I need to change my answer, sorry. The sides of my little bucket go green in a few days, not the water. Other buckets acquire mozzy larvae and such but again no green water. I think you might need a plant food…

Algae like panuaualitts needs minerals one nutrients to grow. Algae will not grow in pure water. RO water is not pure but close. So RO water may not work without fertilizer added. Additionally there is no way to know what type of algae you will get. You likely will not get green water.

It needs to be dechlorinated and have nutrients. You can use fish tank water, aquarium plant fertiliser, or garden/ lawn fertiliser.

1 heaped tablespoon of lawn/ garden fertiliser for every 20 litres (5 gallons) of water. Add lots of light and some aeration. You can use an airline without an airstone to aerate the water. You don't need lots of aeration but some aeration and water movement helps.

I presume an aquarium plant fertiliser would work?

i think that fertiliser would need nitrogen, which the one I use does not have a lot of.
However, the rot and mulm from fish tanks can make up for the loss of nitrogen

the one I used was an iron based aquarium plant fertiliser and didn't have nitrogen, phosphorus or potassium.

don't use gunk from the aquarium. it does nothing to promote plant/ algae growth but does harbour lots of harmful pathogens.
