We bought a new Marineland C-220 Canister Filter for our 46 gallon tank. It was setup exactly as both the DVD and paper instructions showed. It is now hooked up and when plugged in will turn on, but it won't start the water flow. I believe that once water gets going through it, the filter will function, but right now nothing happens. If I press the primer numerous times I can get some water to come in but not a consistent flow.

The intake and outtake tubes were not cut for an exact fit, but they do not have a kink or anything close to it.

Does anyone have any tips to get the filter started? :look:

Sounds like my Eheim 2075 - it has a largish push button to prime. I had to really press it down fully, repeatedly very fast until my arms really ached! It worked though...

on my externals i started a vacum by sucking on the end of the inlet pipeuntil i had a steady flow then attached it to the filter. Wait until the filter is full and let as much air out as possible and then turn the filter on

This is beginning to get frustrating. Now the prime button is no longer bringing water through. I tried sucking in on the tube, and this temporarily brought water through. I tried attaching it quickly before the water came, but the water simply goes into the filter and none more comes through. I'm at a loss of what to do.

Well, I finally have gotten it started and it seems to be running great! We cut the tubes to a better compact length, and then I primed it many times quickly (had tried this before but it wasn't running). It now works.
