Okay, I Bought a new tank, and it was cracked at the bottom, mum went and asked for the money and we bought a second tank, however the cracked tank is still with us, its a bow front aquarium, is there anyway i can fix it?!?!
like place a sheet of glass over it an silicone it or some how seal the cracks?

You can wait for the crack to run its course so it gets to the edge of the glassand cant crack any further and then patch it with another peice on top then cover it in silicone. I have a cracked tank too but this method seems a bit dodgey to me although some people swear by it.

I would just replace the offending piece of glass, for my one a 5ft x 1ft piece at 8 mm thick (dont go thinner than this) was about £50 or there abouts.

maybe someone else will have some more ideas for you. :good:

get a piece of 6mm glass (8mm if the tank is over 15" high) that is 3" wider than the offending cracks' outermost point IE <---|---> (dash = 1" & | = the crack)
cover the glass piece in silicon and adhere it to the bottom, covering the crack.
now silicon all edges of the glass piece for a water tight seal.
wait 3 days to cure and fill in a safe position, outside is best (in case of leaks)
if no leaks, should be ok to use :good:

I hope that made sense

Agree with The-Wolf, the tank can totally be re-used but you'll have to wait till the crack finishes cracking :)

Id go with the method of slicing the bottom glass piece off with a stanley or a cheese wire and then go to your local glazer and get them to cut you a piece of glass that you need, You can even get them to seal it if u wish and if your cheeky like me get them to fill it at there warehouse to make sure there is no leaks!!

Just might need to research a silicon to make sure it gives off no toxins etc but i can imagien that info should be very easy to obtain.......these ppl here are very knowledge able

If the crack is in the bottom and you can see each end, get a drill and drill right at the end of the crack, this will stop it from spreading further. Once you have the 2 holes drilled get a piece of glass and silicon it over the entire area.

O------------------O <--drill where the "O" is
<-- ----------- is the crack
