Hi Guys,

I broke one end of my rio's top brace the other day, I tried to silicone it back but it wasnt good enought and I have ordered a new top brace it should arrive monday hopefully.

Have any of you guys ever changed or removeed a rio's top brace? how do you remove the old one and do i need any silicons or sealants to put the new one in place..

The old brace is off at the broken side but the other side is still firmly in place attached to the tanks top collar/rim, how do I tackle this ? Im tempted to rug it with a bit of force downwards from seeing the broken one there is a small lip that must hold it in place under the tanks top rim?

Appreciate any comments..
Cheers

humm my Rio 180 has the brace as part of the plastic surround, not a glass brace as you state. so it would require the replacement of the whole thing. what type of juwel tank is it?

Hi,
Its a rio 300 Its completly different from my Vision 180's brace it too is part of the tank, this ones brace clips into the frame at the top of the tank in the center,

One side broke in the clasp section so no longer grips/holds the tank and the other side is still fastened tight..

I have a feeling i may have to hacksaw off the other side as close to the end as possible as I have tried to wiggle it or slacken it by hand and its not budging and Im not looking to damage the glass .....

Here is a pic if anyone has any suggestions before I saw it off... Im hoping the new one will clip into place easily enough im guessing its harder to take them off than it is to fit it because if i cant fit the new brace then the tank is useless eh?

This is what it looks like anyways I have put the broken end into the same pic to save 2 photos..

well i would replace the entire fitting not the brace. or remove it and replace it with glass around the top of the tank and a glass brace. a repair would not be safe, IMHO.

Hopefully it will come monday and I will try and fit it...The old one seems like its realy fixed in there at the side thats ok so I may have to hacksaw off the old one as close to the clasp as i can and fit the new one right next to it?

Unless anyone has a better idea? If id seen the brace was damaged I dont think id have bothered with this tank but I may as well have a go at fixing it now its here and I doubt you get an aquarium repair service in yellow pages eh...

If the new one snaps into place next to the old one it will be slightly off center but im sure it will work as long as you dont need any special tools to fit them im hoping it will just push in place and snap shut??

Fingers are well crossed lol
