How to care for filter

Hey Guys....It seems that nobody is a big fan of the carbon in the filters cartridge and It only last a few days. Should I reuse the same one just wash it out over and over.... Has anybody tried to replace it with something else? Like a piece of filter floss? Thanks for any help...

I've used filter wool. I like it because it's really fine it takes out all the very small particles. But I found it needed replacing every now and then. Put it in the final compartment of the filter if you can.

what filter do you have?

I don't use carbon because I have a planted tank.
