I have co2 added to my 90g via four 2liter pop bottles. I used to have those nutra fin co2 "ladders" but when I switched to adding via a power head my co2 levels increased and my plants thanked me. The problem is this is noisy in my bedroom.

I have considered various methods of adding co2 so it is silent.

1) I have heard to use a air stone (I find this requires to much maintenance and pressure from the co2 bottles)

2) I thought about running my co2 lines into the air intake of a quiet air pump and using this air pump to run the co2 through an airstone - I think this will work well but have not tried it yet. I know I will need to design and construct a device to ensure the co2 goes into the pumps air intake correctly and not just into the atmosphere , but I am confident I can do this.

Any other ideas?

I dont have the $ right now to buy a complete "tanked" co2 system...

Thanks for any advice you have
Cheers

Could you not just switch the power head off at night? Plants don't use Co2 at night. Just turn the power head back on the in morning? Better yet run it on a timer so you dont have to worry :)

I suggest the same as mibson. My lights and co2 are hooked up to the same timer. If you use the yeast method with just pressure, I would "unplug" it from the filter or air stone at night.

This does seem like a good idea but I was wondering if the co2 would be too low in the morning when the lights come one. Perhaps Ill get a separate timer for the powerhead. I think if the co2 is off ALL night the co2 will take a few hours to get back up to high levels after the lights go on in the morning. I would like to ensure the co2 is at a high level right when the lights go on...

Comments?

just have the power head come on an hour before the lights come on, the guys with pressurized co2 turn it off all together and have it come on 1 hr before lights, as you are doing the diy co2 you cant turn the co2 off so it wont drop as much, having the power head come on 1hr before should ensure the levels are spot on by the time your lights come on..
