Hi all

I've seen lots of posts about how big Clown Loaches will grow, but I was wondering if anyone could give me guidance on how quickly they achieve their size. I gather that they can live up to 15 years and I would imagine that a goodish part of that they will be full grown.

I want to get a group of four and currently have a new setup of a 27 gallon tank and we have discussed and decided that we will move to a larger tank in the next two years or so. If we were to buy four small clowns now, would they have outgrown their space in that sort of time?

Thanks for any guidance

Out 5 cl's that I had after 2 years they were anything between 3-5" - they are quite slow growing so you should be OK :)

CLown loaches can grow uppto 25cm. For this reason they should not be kept in a tank less than a 6ft tank or maybe a 5ft one. They are large shaoling fish which need lots of swimming room.

Sadly your tank does not have the room for them in the long run.

Yes but they grow slowly and as wishful said they plan on upgrading in a couple of years....

True they do grow slow but i would think the would of get rather abit larger in two years than the size now??

Quite a long time 2years..

The clown Loach will get about 10-12"Max in the aquarium. But in the wild it has been said that they can get to about 17" in the wild. Your tank will be fine for now. But remember that you will need a much larger tank in the future. So enjoy the clown loaches. 8)

Thank you all for your feedback. We're more than prepared for them to become big fish eventually, but it's good to know what sort of time frame we're looking at.

In the end, if they need more space, we'll upgrade no matter how long we've had them - but you have to start out with some sort of plan. The sort of tank I'd like is rather expensive! ;)

Thanks again - I'll let ou know how they get on....
