I work at a pet store and we have about 20 male bettas in cups. I personally make sure that though they are in cups they have good lives. My one question though is how often to feed them. Since right now I only get around to cleaning them every 2 days I have been feeding them every 2 days. Should I be feeding moire often? All we feed them is pellets...

Once aday in a cup, soon will get polluted, then they need a better diet then just flakes or they will be prone to siwmbladder, dropsy, and constipation, maybe ever other day give them some shelled peas.

I would feed them twice a day 3 pellets at a time. I would also try getting them a more varied diet like a pea a week and some frozen or fresh foods.

And cleaning should be done once a day since the cups are small.

Well, I am telling you. The cups WONT get cleaned more than every 2 days. It just wont happen. So I am asking you, in order to keep their cups not polluted...how much food should they get a day? Cause the water will be DISGUSTING by the time their cleaned if I feed them 3 times a day. Plus, noone at the store has the time to pick out three pellets and give it to the bettas 3 times a day. It may seem like neglect, but it is a bussiness and I am doing the best with the resources I have. I am not there all day everyday....and when I am not there....nobody does really anything with the fish.

although i am by NO means an expert, i would think that since your resources are limited, they could get by with every other day feedings. this would cut down on the waste produced and keep the ammonia levels from getting too high in the teeny cups. maybe a small feeding every day if your co-workers can swing it.

my 2 bettas at work go 1-2 days without food every week (when i have my days off). when i am there i feed them 3-4 pellets 1x/day. they seem pretty healthy and happy wiht this current schedule

Drop in a couple pellets in the morning and a couple at night and make sure they're eaten. Sounds like they're being fed too much at once if the water is getting that dirty.

Well, the bettas are not to healthy anyways. They dont really eat when you feed them...so thats why the water gets icky. I guess I will post a chart in the breakroom that needs to be signed off every other day...so I will make sure the bettas are fed AT least that often. Thanks for your help everybody! ;)

 poor little guys.

If you/your employer does not have the resources to care for the fish, why are they selling them?

That's business for you. Sometimes it's hard to believe we don't live in a perfect world (unless you're horribly cynical like me.)

I think that, considering how often their water gets changed, a feeding once every two days sounds good. They won't be starving, and they won't be producing excess amounts of waste either

i am no expert, but i have heard a hungry fish is a healthy fish.....

i feed my betta 5 pettets a day in his 1 gallon bowl...he seems content....

i would agree to feed those fish evey other day....

:)

How exactly you guys clean the bettas' places, I normally do water changes every day... And I feed him every 2 days...

Bettas may sometimes refuse food. Remove any unconsumed food after about 3 minutes because decomposing food will foul the water and make the bettas sick.

Try to change the water in the cups at least twice a day. Clean water will make them livelier, more colorful and attractive to potential buyers.
