How often do you check the water temperature?

I ask because I have one of those infra red gun thingies - which is great when you do water changes.

However, I'd be far more likely to casually glance at the side of the tank at one of those thermometer stickers.

Do people advise those as a backup? If so, which one?

I don't like them. I find them hard to read and they leave a residue on the glass. I use digital thermometers. Two, in case one isn't working.

I just got some cheapo ones. That's why I use more than one. I wouldn't necessarily trust one alone.

I use a small stick on colometric thermometer for my tanks for every day use. They give me a quick assessment that the temperature is in the right range, with just a walk by. For water changes I use a standard alcohol thermometers, trying to add water a couple of degrees cooler than the set point on the tanks.

I have stick on thermometers outside all tanks - they give me the ballpark I need at a glance. Somewhat inaccurate? - good enough for my needs. Sticky residue? - not unless I remove them and there is cleaning if that happens.
For water changes (more accuracy needed) - I have a laser thermometer gun (pointed at the water, not the glass or material of container). It works very well (highly consistent and fairly accurate), it is cheap, quick and easy to use.

I have all but one of my fish tanks indoors. I keep the house temperature at a setting that's around 70 degrees. That's around 21 degrees Celsius for you guys in the UK. The temperature is constant, so I don't need to heat my tanks. This water temperature is fine for most aquarium fish.

My house temp fluctuates in winter with an average around 70 so I do heat my tanks, keep most in the mid 70s. House temp in summer is 77 at night but can get higher in the daytime so I remove heaters in summer

every time I do a water change I check/note the temperature along with the other standard water parameters (PH, Ammonia, etc.) I also use heaters in all of my tanks.
