I have seen several people say that 'sometimes a fish will dieafter giving birth', how often does this happen?

My Molly gave birth yesterday to quite a few fry (she's only a young molly herself), now she is sat by the filter and isn't looking good, has the birth caused this? all the other fish seem fine and the fry are fine.

She's just a bit fatigued after all the effort of birth. She should be fine in a few days. Make sure she gets food and the other fish don't bother her. These fish do not die after giving birth. Maybe you're thinking of wild Salmon? They usually die after swimming from the ocean up to their place of birth in a stream, often a journey of a thousand miles or more.

Older livebearers may die after giving birth or fish that are not in very good health especially if they are immediately bothered by the male or if issues exist in the tank to exacerbate their stressed and exhausted condition.

Young and healthy livebearers will rest up for a bit then be right back at it.

Thank you, have done a water change which seems to have perked her up a little so fingers crossed she will be ok xxx

Like creeker said, they are normally just fine.

Thank you, she seems a lot better today so maybe she was just tired after giving birth to so many fry.
