Ok so i was looking to get some corries in my new 22ltr betta tank, is it too small?.
Any alternatives?

What dimensions is a 22 litre? I guess 40x20x20 cms?...

according to www.about.com they need 10 gallons but here on tff it says they need 10 for breeding and 20 for a community, however i have 6 in my 12 and they are fine. 22 litres might be a bit small but someone else will know better than me, inchworm would definatly know.

I think 22 ltrs (6 US gals) is far too small; cories are quite active little things (though intermittently) and need the space to swim around. Keeping 6 in a 12 is different, since then they have a longer space to move around in, and being cories they won't mind brushing up against one another a bit.

I agree. 6 gallons is way to small for cories. Most cories, especially C. Aeneus are very active when they are young and need space to swim. Once they get grown, they are too big for a 6 gallon. You might be able to put some C. Pygmaeus in there, but I dont know how well cories do with Bettas.

Good Luck

Hi Animation :)

If your tank is cycled, I don't see why you couldn't keep 3 of the smaller corys and a friendly betta in it. While bigger is always better, 6 gallons is adequate.

I suggest you look for corys that don't get bigger than 2" in length. This includes the miniature corys, habrosus, hastatus, and pygmaeus, as well as C. metae (bandit corys), axelrodi, and guapore. Though small, I would not suggest C. pandas since they are more delicate and might be stressed by the betta.

If you are lucky enough to find any of the miniature corys, you could fit in more than three. Just be sure to keep up your water changes and tank cleanings. :D
