How much salt to treat ich?

Hi all,

I just noticed my betta Goldie has ich. I have a heated tank, so I turned the heat up, I am going to raise it to at least 82. How much salt can I safely add to his tank? I don't want to add meds, but I will if I have to. I have some Maracide on hand, and Super Ich Plus. Both are malachite green based. I would much rather add salt and heat though. He is in a divided tank with Dopey, one of my other bettas. I can shuffle a little and put him in the 5G, and put Bob in the 10G. What is my best course of action? Thanks all

I would use the medicated treatments, its better to nip Ich in the bud, it can get nasty.

I may go that route. I just really inspected Dopey, and he has a spot too, so I am going to do the entire 10G. I would still like to add salt, but I don't want to overdose them. The box says 1 tablespoon for 5G. Is that ok or should I add less? More? I have no idea about what to do with salt. I think I will add Maracide last night. I will put an air stone in to get the water circulating. Is there anything else I can do?

1 tablespoon for 5 gallons, 1/2 teaspoon per gallon. Yeah, the dosage is just fine. And I'd definitely recommend it to prevent parasites in the future, not just for the cure.

I think you'll need a medication for this one. Just salt probably won't do it.

Ok,

I need to add 1 more tablespoon of salt. I added Maracide as per directions. I also added a bubble filter turned way down. I am going to get another one for the other side tomorrow. I am planning on keeping salt in their water all the time now. They really enjoyed it when I added it. I am not sure how long Goldie has had ich, he has lots of spots. I didn't see any yesterday, but he is almost white himself. I just beat ich in my 20G last week. ARGHHHHHH! I didn't lose any fish last time(knock on wood) I hope Goldie is going to be ok.

Ich can go from no spots to covered in spots quasi-instaneously. It's absurd.
