Hi,
I got a 55 g saltwater aquarium for my brithday. So far all it has is water in it and has been filtering for 48hours. I would like to know how much live rock I should start out with 10lbs 15lbs probably 20 would be my max for now. Also are there any good places to buy from online or in washington state.

well in general depends on what you are looking for... if your looking to make a reef tank most people say anywhere from 1-1&a half pounds per gallon meanning you would need 55 to 75 lbs of live rock....

but its always good to start out slow in a new tank i would do 10lbs at a time so that you dont shock your system and create a whole new cycle.... make sure you get cured rock and if you dont then cure it yourself before placing it in your tank to keep all the die off from messing up your water...

hope that helps somewhat.... i dont know any places in washington to buy LR sorry but down here in so cali its about $4 a lb for cured fiji rock

if he has nothing in it why do rock slow - just wack it in?

If you can afford to get the rock on 1 go then add it all at once. If money is a problem then add a little at a time. Well cured liverock should not cause a cycle in the system as it will carry all the bacteria needed to deal with thebioload.

Hi,
thanks for all the replies. I found a place online that I can get 10lbs for $35.02 shipped. I will check at the lfs to see if I can find it anycheaper there then will buy some from the cheapest place. The place says it is fully cured but what will I have to do to make sure its ok for my tank. I have read on some places that if its a new tank I can just spray it down and stick it in there or do I have to do the whole curing in the garbage can thing? Also can I buy like a couple damsels to put in there before I have my live rock or does that have to be in before I put fish in.

Live Aquaria Premium Fiji Rock

$89.99 for a 45 pound box of Premium Fiji LR.
Next day shipping is $28.99.

Total for 45 pounds shipped = $118.98

Now... if you get together with some local marine lovers and spend over 225 dollars on the order, you get free shipping!

Then you would be paying only 2 dollars a pound for Live Rock!!!!

Best of luck to you!
