Im a beginner but would like a 10 gallon tank. How much would it cost to get a tank/a light/great filter/air filter? Also the price of gravel and water sanitizer. I want to spend at least as possible but also get a good prodect. I'm going to fill the tank with platies, I have two now and found that they are perfect fish. There names are Mick and Yetti. (thaey are both males) :D

y dont you just go to www.petsmart.com and get the starter kit? a great companion for platies are swordtails. and they breed too. :D :p

Go to walmart, start up kit has everything! Filter is okay not great, but with platies, should be fine.

50 bucks for deluxe. declorinater 6 bucks, dont last time i purchased gravel.

Not bad and it would all be new!

Walmart sucks for fish, but great for supplies and equipment

i bought my 10 gallon at walmart also, but didn't go with the deluxe one since i didn't need the heater, net ect. the gravel if you purchase it there, should only be about $2-3 at the most.

The "basic" one at Wal-Mart is $30, "Deluxe" is $50.

Deluxe adds cheap heater and floresent light instead of incadecent. However, the "basic" holds 2 incadecents, and I think you might get better wattage from 2 compact florecents as opposed to the one floresent that the deluxe comes with. The tank themselves are made by all glass

Walmart doesnt carry hoods though..i called there when i was looking for one for my 10g...i fornd a flouresent light hood at the lfs for 70$... so u will probably want a hood for ur tank..but they vary in prices and styles :)

Try a local fish shop for the tank. For a good sturdy stand and a 10 gallon w/florescent hood (light included) I paid about $105 at an lfs (tank was $25, stand was $80. I was able to haggle my way into that price and saved myself about $20-25 compared to what I would have paid for at Petco.

A good filter at a moderate price for a 10 gallon tank I'd recommend the aquaclear 100, 150, or 200. Depends on where you shop, but I've seen these three for under $20.

gravel isn't too expensive...you could buy enough gravel for a ten gallon for about $5.00

As far as heaters go, I think I paid $20 for the one I have in the 10 gallon. You could get a good heater for under $25.

I'd recommend Tetra aquasafe for a dechlorinator. Price depends on the size of the bottle, but it's pretty cheap.
