Ok i have a 10g tank which is soon to have a sand substrate and i am planning on getting trumpet snails for it when its done.

my question, how many snails would be appropriate for a tank this size

Good point, no im going to have 4-5 pygmy cories and a shoal of something small

Not sure about the snails. For the small shoal of fish why not check out harlequin rasboras? don't put any trumpet snails in there. They are a pain in the behind. And once they are in the tank, you can't get rid of them.

Shoaling fish, hold the tetras. Hmm...

Galaxy Rasbora? http/en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Celestichthys_margaritatus

It's really a danio, but is known as a rasbora in the aquarium trade.

I dont know what sort of fish im going to get at the moment, im working on changing to gravel to sand first.

Question to any cory lovers out there, how many pigmy cories would be happy in a 10g, with a shoal of something above them.

Currently looking at

- some? pygmy cories
- shoal of small fish.

You could keep 6-8 Pygmy Cories in the tank with no problems.
As for a shoal of small fish, have a look at:

Microrasbora erythromicron
Microrasbora kubotai
Boraras maculatus
Ember Tetra
