What is the ideal number of platies to put together and what combos of male/female?
I have one male at the moment, but unfortunately this morning he has killed one of my red tailed minnows(dont know techy name!) and I have removed the other because he kept picking on it ... thankfully seems to be ok but too scared to put it back in now! I have heard that they can get agressive as they get older .. could it be i just have an old techy male? I think he's started picking on one of my female guppies now.
I never dreamt fish keeping was so hard!

There's not really any ideal number...usually just more then one, though. The best combo is 1 male per 2-3 females, or you could do just females. Or just males (Though I am not sure how this would work if your male is aggressive...).

He could be an aggressive male. But since he's picking on the female Guppy, it sounds like he's trying to mate with her. I'd get him a couple females...but only if you are prepared for the fry. :)
