Hey all :)

So I have a ten gallon tank with sand and wood and live plants. It is a foot and a half long and 10 and a half inches wide. I currently have 2 female balloon mollies, one female guppy, like 20 fry that I will be giving away as soon as I can sex them, and 4 ghost shrimp.

I am going to a really great LFS this weekend and I wanted to pick up some more shrimp, but I was wondering how many and of what kinds I should get? I am not getting rid of my 4 ghost shrimp, though...I really love cherries and amanos...if i kept my 4 ghosts how many of each (or one) could I get?

thanks!

Since shrimp don't add much to the bio-load of your tank, you can safely have several shrimp. Amano would be good as they are not likely to be bothered by the other fish in your tank. You could take a chance on the Cherry shrimp as well, the mollies and guppies probably won't bother them too much, plus the cherry shrimp are fast to get away but there is the chance that they may get picked on. If you're wanting Cherry shrimp, you could add 20+ safely. Since amano are larger, I would keep it to below 20. Just make sure you never have ammonia or nitrite and don't over feed the shrimp.

*Just to give you some idea of how many shrimp can go in a tank, I have over 300 wild cherry shrimp in my 30 gallon. I do weekly water changes of 50%.

Good luck

Bee/crystal red shrimp are more difficult to care for. They are much more finicky about water parameters. They are lovely shrimp to have but not as easy as amano, ghost and cherry shrimp.
