How Many Lph Does A 65L Tank Need?

Thanks truck, another slighlty stupid sounding quesion...

Do you have to use special sand, or can you use playsand?

Use Aragonite. Its calcium carbonate based and so will help to buffer your PH level

You'd probably want aragonite or coral sand

i think

edit: spelling of aragonite. missed the second 'a'!

^ that and also play sand is made from quartz which is quite sharp so it can hurt anything going through it.

i would agree with seffie 1300lph just remember the liter of the tank * 20 but more is better :good: 65L isint that big for a marine tank.

Is there such a thing as over doing it?
Is just one needed or 2?

Its always better to have more than one of everything like that. If one pump fails, then at least you have another to maintain some flow around the rocks. Its the water circulating around the rock that keeps the bacteria alive. No flow will result in die off. Similarly with heaters. Its much better to have two heaters, because if one packs up, then at least the other is there to maintain the heat required until you can get another replacement.

Obviously you can over do it by having so much flow in the tank that sand is continuously blowing around or forced up to one end, but generally the more flow the better. Some powerheads are better than others. Some produce a narrow jet, which blasts the fish if they get into its stream. The vibration waterpumps that I linked you to on the other thread have a more diffused flow and are better for circulating the water around the rocks.

Actuallly it depends on what you want to keep. LPS corals do best on a slower flow tank. Where hard SPS coral do best in a minimum of 30X turnover. Softies also like it a bit more gentle.

LPS corals are easily damaged in masses of flow. A good ting is to research coral placement, or ask on here. Then try and set your rock work up so you have an area of more gentle flow for these corals.

There does come a point where the stock you are keeping isnt benefiting from all the flow you are using and therefor its a waste of electrisity and pumps.

Are these the same type of thing;

But i would get the appropriate LPH.

The link that you gave me AK77, was 3000LPH. So could i just buy 1 of those to put in the actual tank. If i but two to put in the tank then it will total 6000LPH.

Or should i just buy 2 appropriate LPH Powerheads?

sorry for all the questions. :)

They are the same type of pump, but the wrong type. You ewant propellar type ones, they are mosre efficient and give a wider flow than those.

look for korallias!

well, i know someone whos selling a Seio 620 (2400LPH). They any good?

oh yeh, the koralias are a tad out my price range :/
