Hello all, i read somewhere that you should have 1 inch of fish per 1 gallon of water. So a 10 gallon tank = 10 inches of fish. How is it in the fish shops they have dozens if not hundreds of fish in tiny tanks ? Thank you

becuase they are only there untill they sell its not long term its just a holding tank

Shop tanks are normally on much bigger filter systems than anything you'd have at home and as tom said the fish aren't there long term.

As said shops have fast turn arounds so the fish wont be there long enough for them to consider stocking issues. The rule its self isnt really a rule just a guide and the 1 cm of fish per liter is rubbish.

Why is 1cm per litre rubbish? It's more than 1 inch per gallon, but a lot of people go up to about 2" per gallon when their tanks are mature.
