I have a biOrb 30 litre tank, which is 8 gallons.

I was wondering how many tropical fish I could fit into it?
I would preferably like some neon/cardinal tetras and some five-banded barbs.

Also, would any angelfish be able to fit in the tank along with the others, or is it not enough space?

Thanks!

There are a few options with a 8 gallon tank. Some of the fish that would be good in your tank could be:
- 4-5 male guppies
- 4-5 neon tetras
- 3-4 small killifish (clown killis are pretty good)
- 3-4 cherry barbs
- shrimp
There is more options then these aswell. Angelfish need at least a 20 gallon tank, and thats for one.

Keep doing searches here on TFF if you can. There have been some very good stocking threads for small tanks. Endlers and Harlequin Rasboras are particularly nice in small tanks.

the usual guide that's given to work out how many fish you can have is 1" of fish per us gallon of water.

your tanks 8 gals so 8" of fish. now this needs to be worked out on the adult size of the fish, often in the shops the fish you see are juveniles and can get considerably bigger so you need to be sure to do your research before you buy the fish. Also you need to remember that 1 x 8" fish does not need the same size tank as 8 x 1" fishes. You shouldn't be looking at anything that gets bigger than 2" for your tank really.

bi-orb's are a funny shape, because of the shape they offer very little floor space and very little surface area this means they have less oxygen in the water so you have to be careful not too crowd the tanks or the fish will suffer. so i'd work to a stocking or about 6" max for the tank.

if you like neon/cardinals then you could keep a group of 4 of these and then maybe a pair of amano shrimp to add some variety. :good:

I wouldn't post that link for a biOrb.

A biOrb doesn't have the footprint of a standard rectangular 10 gallon tank. It's footprint is horribly small, so it's definately not good for cories, loaches, or cichlids. It's surface area is also very limited, so no to keeping gouramis and hatchetfish.

OK, thanks everyone.

I'm thinking some neon/cardinal tetras then.

If I had a few tetras, what would be some good fish to keep in a pair - I would prefer to have more than one species, but I only want a pair of fish, so are there any small fish that would be good that aren't schooling-type fish?

Thanks again

Neons do best in a school. If you had 4-5 of them, I'm not sure that you could add another pair of fish, but you could maybe get away with a single male guppy in addition to the neons. You'd have to be very diligent about water changes and be sure your tank is well cycled before adding them all though. Other options besides the guppy might be an african dwarf frog, a snail, or like stated above 2-3 shrimp. Good luck!

You could get a pair of either, Clown Killifish (or any other SMALL killifish) or Cherry barbs. You could even get a pair of a small Shell dweller ( cichlid) but if you are new to the hobby, you might not want to go with them i guess.

4 neons and a pair of sparkling gourami's could work. you'd have to be super good with maintenance though as that is a fairly heavy stocking for the tank.

another option is 4 neons and a trio of endlers (all male)
