It really depends what kind of fish. You could get away with 6 or 7 guppies or or 4 platies or a small number of other small fish like neons. It is alvayw nice to have some room left over for fry when they arrive. If you are keeping livebearers they will arrive. Probably the best answer is that you can slightly overstock a 10 galloon that is only used as a quarantine tank for you 20 or your 29 or your 55. Trying to keep enough variety in a 10 to satisfy most people will overcrowd your fish.
