That all depends on the size of the fish and their requirements. You could end up with just one larger fish, or quite a shoal of 1" fish.

Filtration and maintenance also play a large part in the stocking levels.

Yeah there aren't really as many guidelines for marine as the is for FW (ie 1" per gallon, etc). In general SW fish need more voulme per inch then FW fish and aggresivness and territory is more of an issue then with your common FW fish.

Best bet is to have a look at lots of sites that sell marine fish an make a note of which fish you like the look of. Then take that list and find out which ones are suitable for the tank. Once you have norrowed it down take the list again and see which fish are suitable to go with each other. Once you get to this stage you can then start asking around to get a recommendation on how many you could keep.
