First off if you get a male and female Cory are they guaranteed to breed with the right conditions or can they be picky? Now if you get them to breed how many eggs do they usually have? these fish are my favorite and I'd love to breed them but I don't have space for millions of fish. If they will eat their own eggs then maybe that would work if I just save like the first batch and then just let things go on as normal or even just see if any survive. OR I could let things go naturally and save a select number that actually hatch. How hard are Corys to breed? If I start then I really want to get into the species and learn all I can. Also how many Corys can live in a 10 gallon tank with no other species?

:fun:

Where to start?

Well, first, regardless of species, get at least five Cories if possible. Five will do fine usually in 10 usg. Try to get more boys than girls. Many of the rest of your questions depend on the species. If you get bronze/C.aeneus, and you have a male and a female, they will almost certainly breed--all things being equal. The same goes for peppers. If you have a male and a female bronze in a 10 usg, their family will grow a Cory at a time with no help most probably. You will have a surplus of eggs that will hatch and grow to fry with a little help.

Some others, like peppers/C.paleatus will breed without much assisstance, but you will need to remove the eggs, hatch them, and tend the fry. You will have a surplus of eggs that will hatch.

Other species will spawn easily, but will lay less eggs or will have a low hatch rate. Still other species will need real effort to get to begin spawning. If you choose to breed Cories, most would advise to start with bronze. You could have many missteps at first. I think my first attempt with a nice little clutch of eggs mostly hatched, but I was finally able to present one healthy juvie to the tribe.

They are a lovely fish with a market.

I've been really busy in real life and havent had much time for forum browsing.
Finally got my 120gal tank setup, been talking about stocking it over on the oddballs forum.

The pdf aint finished, its got a few pointers missing, but as I said been too busy to do anything, as I've started a new job (now working as an ecommerce developer) and also my own web design company has taken off :good: so things are going well work wise anyway.

I'll try and spread my help over the cories again :) I think I'm gonna get back into breeding too, not sure which species this time though, might do a mixture.
