oo, im trying to decide wheather i should get more cons for my 30 or move my one con to my 55 gallon gourami tank. Ive told you guys in the past how aggressive they are. I told you how they killed an african cichlid. The pH level will be fine since Cons range from 6-8 and gouramis 6-8.8. I want to move him because i really want to make that 30 salt water. Do you guys think that will work out. He is a male can about 4 inches. and my gouramis are all male and about 5 inches except the Paradise which is about 4 inches (and the most aggressive fish in the tank besides the channel cats). o yea and the tank is very well planted, with many rocks and hiding places. It even has a 3 foot long pvc pipe under the gravel with elbows sticking up (in a planted tank i had nowhere for a cave for the channel cats, so i did that, they love it)

Well i really want the salt tank but i dont want any harm to come to my Gouramis (i love them dearly). I have heard on some sites that in a 55 a con can be kept with Gold and Blue Gouramis and other sites say that its a bad idea so i figured that i would ask the great people of this forum. Has anyone actually kept a con with Blue and gold gouramis??

As i have done a lot of research on convicts i think if it is one male without a female it should be fine but im still debating in my head too.

You have been very helpful. I will try it and let u know how it turns out. I think it should be fine because right now he is with two small pictus cats and he doesnt bother them at all.

I really do, cuz i made a horrible decision last week resulting in the death of one of my fish and i still feel horible. But hopefully this time will be better.. :D :D :D

I would only keep to in there as I have owned them once and they can get to 6inches very quickly. Best to keep them happy with a bit of space - you could keep a pair in there. However you can still maybe add a few more other cichlids.

I would only do one pair of cons in a 30.

When my breeding pair paired up in my 40, they killed one of the remaining males and i had to to remove the female. I *tried* to get two pairs but they first one didn't allow it.

Wel after talking to mustang and thecichlidaddict i decided not to move him to the 55 instead i bought 6 tiger barbs as tankmates and they are getting along great. He actually seems to be afraid of them. I decided also not to add more cons because i didnt want them to breed and attack the pictus cats. Thanks guys..

the males will usually kill anyone smaller than they are....if youre going to try to find a breeding pair get a big female...and a smaller male... thats what id do :fish:

maybe a pair of cons and a pair of something else in a 30 if u want to keep more than 1 pair.. maybe firemouths?.. something that wont be bullied by the cons and wont bully the cons... something that can go head to head safely

 A pair of breeding cons will happily kill any other cichlids in a small tank like this, especially a less aggressive type like Firemouths. Plus a 30 gallon is too small for two pairs of cichlids anyway.
