I'd like (eventually) to add some albino cory's to my tank.
Now, I believe they are quite sensitive to water and so won't be added until the tank has been up for some time.
What I'd like to know is how many is minimum/optimal for a shoal of cory's? I was thinking of about 4/6 maybe?
And are they going to be compatible with the danios I already have? Are there any fish they are particularly not compatible with?

Corys are compatible with pretty much anything that doesn't eat smaller fish.

I would say between 6 and 8 is a good shoal but how many you can fit in depends on how big your tank is and how many Danios you already have.

125L tank with 7 Danios at present (in siggy).
I'd like to aim for a little variety - talking in the long term here, not right away - so don't want to max out on any one kind which is why I was thinking 4/6. If you say 6/8 then sounds like about 6 is a nice compromise =)

Hi JustKia :)

Corys are active and friendly fish that get along well with most fish you might put into a community tank. I would avoid cichlids or other fish that would tend to be aggressive toward them. As long as your tank is fully cycled you can add them at any time.

Three or four of any species is the least I would recommend, but since albinos are usually color variations of C. aeneus (aka bronze corys) they can readily be mixed and matched. What other Cory species did you have in mind?

You dont have to have all the same species necessarily for them to shoal- Mine play together and shoal and look what i have,

black sailfin cory,bronze cory,green cory,adolpho cory,sterbai,peppered cory,leopard cory,skunk cory. Just a thought for you.

I was just going to go with the albino ones, I think they're actually albino bronze cory's.
Would it be advisable to mix them up a bit? Although, so far I can only recal seeing bronze and albino in the LFS, so maybe 3 of each...

You dont have to mix them up-i just did for variety -there isnt any hassle amonst them, they feed together and sit together. :good:

The cories really won't notice that some are albinos and some are bronze. If they are all the same species they will shoal nicely together. Cories don't act disagreeable when kept alone with other fish. They play together nicely and entertain us much more when kept in groups but 1 of each of several kinds won't be a problem for the fish. They are more sedate when not kept with several of their own species.

Thanks for the replies.
Once the tank is ready I'll see what corys the LFS has and take the mix n match option from there if they have several =)
