I have a 300 litre tank with numerous varied fish - anyhow, I have 5 clown loach, each around 4-5 inches and a number of posts have mentioned that it is not a good idea to have so many clowns in this particular size tank because of the size that they can grow to.

My question is: how many clown loach are actually suitable for a 300 litre tank?

Many thanks.

A very subjective question,

Personally I am going to refrain from commenting on this subject as I got verbally assaulted for commenting on this subject in this forum

So instead I suggest there are many resources that could help you to make an informed decision on your question.

Start with this forum check the fish index and have a read: http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=34953

You may find some info here: http://www.loaches.com/species-index/clown...ia-macracanthus

Some of the more experienced Clown Loach keepers will hopefully help you with this question.

Try using the search option of this forum it is on the top right of the page between the tabs "Members" and "Help" it may help you to trawl up some older posts on this matter.

I take it you have google'd this question?

I have 8 of them in a 350 litre tank but they are very small and I am soon getting a more suitable size and shape to set up a river tank

Have you got any pictures of your Loaches it would be great to see them

Good luck :good:

Personally, IMO I would say that your Clowns need a bigger tank sooner rather than later. Clowns need to be in groups of at least 5, so you have the right number but at their size they are a little short on space in there. Are you able to upgrade to a 5' tank any time soon?
