okay...so i have a 75 gallon tank with cichlids in it....currently 1m/2f sunshine peacocks, and soon to be probably another female sunshine, and at least 5-6 black calvus...

i also have to plecostomis (i know i just spelled that wrong...) and two clown loaches...

i have read that clown loaches do best in groups of 3 or more...

the two in the tank where given to me with the tank and he says they have been in the tank for at least 3-4 years....so they are larger and have always been together......will it be okay to add another one?? and how many is to many for a 75 gallon tank with 10 other fish in it...??

:)

Get big ones, about the same size of your current ones. If you get small ones your big ones will probably harass them to death.

That is not true, small and large clown loaches will live perfectly happily together. The big ones will just be higher up in the ranks, that is all.

I have a 4" fat clown loach and a 1" thin clown loach as well as 2 middle sized and they get one great.

mine are at least 4 years old.....so i'm not really going to be able to find them that big already.....plus i'd pay an assload for them that big....

they are already 8 bucks for small ones...

I've seen several dif tanks that had mixed sizes for the clown loach - didn't notice that there were too many problems with that. Did seem that the higher rankings went with the larger ones but they all schooled together...

When adding new clown loaches to a tank, they are already stressed from having to acclimate to a new environment, without the added stress of being chased around by bigger clowns who are trying to establish a pecking order. I'm only saying this for the benefit of the clowns, as I heard on this very forum that someone lost two small clowns due to stress that was related to being transferred from one tank to another and being chased by a bigger more dominant clown.

Yeah, I'm not too sure about that either. I think there may have been another problem with that other tank. IME Clowns are very peaceful and I've see tanks with 8" clowns mixed with 2" clowns with no problems!!
