hi ive got a male and a female betta(which is in a divider) in a breeding tank. i put them in there about an hour ago. they both seem interested an keen on each other, the male has started making a bubble nest but i wanted to know how long does it take for the female to produce eggs in her belly?
thanx in advance

you should have conditioned her before you put them together... may take 1 week may take 1 month.. but you really need to condition them seperately

for how long? like 2 weeks? or just a few days? the importance of conditioning them isnt for fun , it is to make sure your little buddies are healthy for the stress they are about to endure. The father will not be fed for about 3-5 days after the spawn and the female will will be kniocked around a good bit...just feeding bloodworms will not condition them...

i hav had the female for over a month and have always fed bloodworms everyday. wat else do i need to do to condition her? i have read pages an pages an pages on how to breed so its not like im rushing into it, but i never came across conditioning juz feed good food like blood worms.

ok, cool, i would also wouldmaybe find a good commercial food like bio gold or something to help balance the diet along with maybe some shelled peas once a week for roughage. They may be good to go now , but eating one food constantly may cause them to lack something nutrionally. I am not sure of the nutrition value of straight worms....

awesome, so u think she is ready? i hav tried to feed her 2 different brands of flakes an she wont eat them. she wont eat betta pellets either, so i have to find something else that she will eat, other than blood worms. so is conditioning just feeding good foods for a few weeks b4 u breed like brine shrimp, blood worms etc? can u give more info on conditioning plz
thanx ur awesome

;) congrats! you should have some babies soon.

you may be ready now. if they wont eat flakes , try betta bio gold by hikari. I only know of one that wont eat that food, and that is tekknocolors here, and that betta is strange anyways LOL. My bettas dont like the cheap betta pellets. The only brands mine do eat with out problem is the betta bio gold and the HBH pellets pet smart sells. Also try microwaving frozen peas for a few seconds and then peel them for your little friends they love that.
As for conditioning I usually feed twice a day for at least 2 weeks. When I notice they look a little bigger. They are ready. I keep the water clean (like you wouldnt do that anyways) but eating twice a day can be messy.

True that. Crazy little betta Modo! Anyway, could you feed them frozen brine shrimp or flakes too... just to vary the diet as much as possible?

<-- Still not breeding, just wondering... ;)

*raises her hand* i also have a female betta that doesn't go for the hikari bio gold just to let you know :p she likes the cheaper food
