How Long should I run a filtration system side by side with another filtration system before removing the original system all together.

How Long will the new filtration system take to get populated with good bacteria in a 2 month old tank.

I didn't like the walmart filter so I bought an aqua clear filtration system.

I don't want to send my tank into a mini cycle.

To speed things up, put some filter media from the old filter into the new one, where it will 'seed' the new one. Run both side by side for 6 weeks and you should be fine. Running both together indefinitley is also an option as relatively few fish wont thank you for the extra cleaning effect.

Would I have to run them side by side for that long. I thought maybe a week or so.
