i'm gonna go on holiday for a week soon. i'm wondering whether it's ok to let my fish diet for the whole 7 days (this seems a looong time to me) or should i risk asking my insane friend to come round and feed them mid-week?? -_-

I say risk feeding them mid week

just prepare the food in a zip lock bag so he can dump it in and leave duing middle of the week

I agree... if you can get some preportioned foods it would be best... but they will not die from one week I would guess... Fish go longer in the wild with no food at times... and even longer when first captured and shipped around the world 6-7times :)

fish can last up to 2 weeks without food i think

I only feed my fish once every other day so it's easier for me to leave them. I often have to with summer festivals and holidays but it's never been more than 5 days. Longer than that and I would get someone to feed them.

I don't see it as lettting them starve. Fish are not like us, the ajority of fish we have are fine for a week or more. Although expect for them to have eaten your plants at least a little!

3 days, even though I know they would be fine for longer...fatties :p

Id rather my fish went hungry for up to two weeks than let a non fishkeeper or inexperienced fishkeeper near my tanks. Its better for them to go hungry than be over fed.

i agree cfc, i've left my fish more than enough times for a fortnight when on holiday, better than getting someone who doesn't keep fish themself to do it.
beside's the tank is always free of algae when you come back!!!

Better to let them grow hungry in clean water than to be overfed in dirty water.

I'd not let anyone near your fish! When I go on my hols iam going to make my grandad feed my fish! (experianced fish keeper but grandma made him get rid of his tanks! :-( )

me too. once I stopped feeding my fish everyday my fish started living longer and seemed healthier. sometimes i forget to feed my tropicals (since they are in the back part of the house) and they always do fine.

I was gone two weeks with my dad in the hospital and they were fine.
