I picked up an old filter sponge from a friend of mine who was changing theirs. I rinsed it in their old tank water slightly and stuck it into one of my filters on my 120 gallon. I also took some gravel from my cycled 29 gallon, stuck it in a sock and stuck it in my tank.

I am doing a fishless cycle by adding ammonia. How long do you think my tank will take to cycle?

Tanks usually take 4 weeks to cycle, some go faster than other though. My one 55 gallon was done in 2 weeks.

Hi..just to confuse you.....I seeded a smaller tank from my larger. Although ammonia came down almost right away, mine still took almost as long to cycle. So.....there ya have it. Every tank is different. Mine took 6 weeks. SH

I added only gravel, no filter media to a tank that was in day 9 of a fishy cycle. After adding that it only took about 5 more days to fully cycle :)
You will soon be adding fish! Please let us know what you get & post pictures........I have to live vicariously :) as I have not quite enough $$$ to suffer from MTS

Okie dokie. I will take some pics of my tank tomorrow or the next day. It is pretty boring as of now as it is only water and sand. Oh and a small piece of java fern and a background. :p I will keep making updates though until my tank cycles. Sounds fun.
