How Long Does Carbon And Phosphate Remover Last?

mine last about a month tops.

You should be able to tell when they need changing with regular water testing

Also depends on brand and quality

Wow it's going to be an expensive game lol what about rowaphos that's like £20 a pop!

You could make it last longer than me by controlling the phosphates going into your tank. Good quality salt with very low TDS ro water. Rinse al frozen foods very well after de-frosting, even better get your fish to accept pellets and flake for a good % of their meals.

How big of a tub of rowa do you get for £20. I get enough for 200gallons saltwater for £15 at my LFs

so u rinse the frozen food? so u dont use there juices, ive been doing this wrong

don't know about carbon as i don't run it, but for phosphate remover (rowaphos in my case) just change it when your phosphate levels are creeping up.
mine has been in for around 3-4 months now, and i'm still getting 0 on my tests.

reducing the input of phosphate as others have suggested by rinsing frozen food is good and by utilising a refugium with lots of algae to soak up excess phosphates will both help!

a good quality po4 remover won't leach the phosphates back into the water when it is full so there is no worry there. just test every week or 2 weeks (or in my case when i see a spurt in algae growth) and if the phosphate level is not 0 change your po4 remover.

i used to replace carbon every 3 montsh when i had a 3 stage filter (sponge, bio, carbon) but that was freshwater. Not sure about salty.

I am about to replace my rowaphos after 1.5 months since I'm getting cyano!

Chaetomorpha... the longest lasting phosphate absorber :good:

lol ok i changed my phosphate remover today to be sure and i will change my carbon in 2 weeks
