ive just got a new tank 72l , i was wondering how long i shud leave it before putting fish in,, i have just filled with sand and water today, ive put dechlorinator and plants in, and brand new filter,,and heater are running , water temperature is 24 ,ive got my fish in my other tank ready to put in my new tank, just dont know how long to wait? also i got given a platy yesterday, i noticed it has 2 white spots , ?? , any ideas what they are,or how i shud treat it? if id have noticed the white spot on it, i wudnt have taken the fish,

If all the fish are moving to the new tank, then you can move them straight away as long as you move ALL the filter media with them.

It can either be put in the new filter, or you can move the whole filter across and run the two in tandem for a couple of months.

I'd move the media into the new filter if I were you.

Just test often and feed sparingly for a week or so in case of mini-cycles.

I can't be sure what's wrong with the platy without a pic or a better description.

thanks fluttermouth , ill put the media in my new filter , and put fish in it tnite, also the platys i have are 4 red with black fins and blck tails, all 4 the same, i only had 3 , sum 1 gave me another identical so i took the fish, it has a red spot on nose,also a white spot under mouth ,and 1 more has just appeard in the last hour on its gills,? ill try get a photo on here,

If you move all the media to the new filter, you also need to move all the fish! Think of the fish and the media being unable to survive without each other, so for example:
* new/no media + no fish => nothing happening
* established media + no fish => dead media
* new/no media + fish => dead fish
* established media + fish => all running good

THANKS KITTY KAT , I WAS GOIN TO PUT MEDIA IN THEN FISH A DAY LATER, BUT IVE JUST PUT BOTH IN TOGETHER,FISH AND MEDIA, THANKS FOR YOUR HELP :good:

Do keep in mind that that is a very crude way of putting it and that "fish" can be replaced with "ammonia", to keep media alive.

im sorry kitty kat if i offended you, i must have worded it wrong, all i was saying was that i put the media out of old filter that was running, and put the media in a new filter in new tank, i put the fish in at same time, i thought thats what you said to do, im sorry,

fluttermouth, do u think my post was crude,kitty kat thinks so, i dne what you all said, put the media in the new tank at the same time as the fish, but kitty kat said it was a crude way of putting it, what does she mean? did i say sumthing wrong on my post, im sorry if i did,it was not intended

No hun, this is a crude way of describing what is going on inside an aquatium:

Crude means unrefined, simple, etc. In reality, the process is a LOT more complicated and complex.
