I got a Gibbiceps sailfin a while ago at my lfs, and was told that he would stay small for three years or so. Obviously this wasn't the case and he's nearly trebbled his size in just a few months. The moral of the story is to check before you buy, but we live and learn.

My wife has grown quite attached to him and it seemed a real shame to give away such a wonderful fish. The tank we bought him for was far to small for his needs so instead of giving him to someone we've gotten a new and much bigger tank. The tank has been running about two and a half weeks, and there have been some fish in for about five days. I would note that I will always supplement his diet with other goodies, but I need to know the answer to this question:

Should I wait a certain ammount of time to transfer him (to allow algae to build) or would it be ok to transfer him any time supplementing his diet with algae wafers and cucumber?

Many thanks,

James.

I'm not any expert, but I had a Pleco that I had to move to a bigger tank and I was told to put him in there in a bag (Like the one's you purchase them in) for about an hour or so and they will be fine. I personally just dropped mine in and he was fine. He's about a year old. Hope this helps!

have you cycled the new tank?

have you did you add the smaller filter next to the bigger one so that the already existing good abcterial could colonize?

i would add both filters to the new tank to give it a chance to build the bacteria and add the plec. I just woulddnt add any other fish.
