I'm just curious as to how well my tank is running i have a 10 gal tank with 4 zebra danions been running for about 2 weeks
I am using a master test kit

Ammonia - .5
Ph - 7.5
Nitrite - 0
GH - 196ppm
temp 77f

What i am wondering are what kind of fish are good for the ph and gh of my water?
Also how often should i do water changes?
I realy like the Gourmi (sp) but can they go with the zebra danios?
I am getting a 55 gal tank soon and i think i want to get some cichlids are they ok for my water?
I also need help picking out the type i want and what fish can go with what. I really like the colourful ones....

thanks

yea you have normal readings for a cycling tank. The zebra danios that you have are good fish for the 10 gallon and also they are probably one of the most hardiest tropical fish. They use the zebra danios for all types of science tests because they can usually withstand anything and the glowfish once started as a zebra danio.

Most fish will adjust themselves to the water available. Most people will agree that stable water conditions are, in most cases, more important than "perfect" water conditions. Also, chances are your local fish stores are using your area's tap water in their tanks (you may want to ask them). If so, then any fish that seems to be doing well in your LFSs tanks, and has been there a while, should be fine in your tank.

AFter a tank has 'cycled', I personally would recommend starting with a 25% water change once a week, and see how that goes (eventually, you're probably going to want to purchase a nitrate test kit).

You were close; it's 'gourami' :) Can't help you much there, though, I don't have danios.

I've never kept cichlids, but from what I've read, many of them (like the Africans, and especially mbunas??) prefer a higher pH. 7.8 is often cited as 'optimal' for those.

10 gallons can't really hold a lot of fish, to tell the truth. If you like the danios, I'd probably get a couple cory catfish to clean the bottom, and maybe something like a platy, and call it 'full'.

If you're talking about the 55, you have a lot of options, but if you decide on cichlids, then for the most part, you'll have to keep an "all-cichlid" tank. I'd suggest some heavy research if that's the case -- most cichlids are quite aggressive.

There are several species of cichlids that will work in your tank, and hundreds that will not. Generally and dwarf riverine species will work.
