well its a columbian tetra and a bala shark, they seemed to have formed a friendship of sorts "hanging out" with each other and when i had to move the columbian tetra for medicinal reasons the bala shark started sulking and moping around, has this happened to anyone else?

Hi, judging by your profile you only have the one tetra and one shark and since they are both schooling fish that is what they are attempting to do. The shark will quickly out grow your 23 gallon tank so it would be kinder to rehome him and get the tetra some friends of his own kind.

Emma :)

we had an 18inch saratoga and a 3inch female convict hang out together in a tank.

im moving soon and i have a friend with a 200+ gallon tank who wants him for his school of bala's
i think hes happy anyways and i am proud of the fact that i weaned the bala off sinking pellets and onto flakes and bloodworms
and i also was considering getting more columbian tetra's and possibly adding a few pencil fish (forgot to update my fish list (better do that now...))
