I came home to a couple fish covered in ich today, I have started the med treatment, how high should i raise the temp in the tank? ATM the temp is 74F I have parots a fantail. cories beta and black moor in the tank

Turn it up to 30, good luck.

No, he means 30C (86F).

I think this a bit high, I'd go 80-82F.

i'm treating fo ick right now. I just have the tank up to 86F with a towel covering the tank to keep it dark. All signs of ick are gone but I will keep it like this for another 4 or 5 days. good luck. btw, be sure to only turn up 1 degree every 12 hours.

Thanks for the info folks, whats the reason for keeping the tank dark?

So far all I have done is bump the temp slightly and add the medication. Should i be doing water changes? Doesn't the ich medicine screw up my bacteria also? Thanks again

Well I know this fish guru woman and she’s the one that gave me that info. Though I’ve heard in various places to turn off the lights when a tank has ick. Apparently ick grows well in light and not in the dark. So I keep my tank devoid of all light except for maybe an hour or two a day to give the fish a break and let them eat, play, whatever.

edit: btw, I don't turn their lights on I just take the towel off so it's still pretty dim in there.
