the night before last, somehow, the plug to the heater on the SW tank was unplugged. seeing as it gets down to around 0C here at night, when i came out yesterday morning, the water was about 16C  one quick glance at everyone in the tank and it was pretty apparent they werent appreciating the cold one bit.

i was pretty worried at this point as i had also bought 2 new corals they day before who were a little under the weather anyway as when i had changed the water the morning i got them, i used real sea water from my lfs which usually is at a perfect 1.024. unfortunately, this time it was 1.029 and whn i rang them about it they said they guy who dropped the water off had told them it was very salty which he was attributing to the drought in the area

so i set to work, fixing the water by slowly bringing the salinity down and temp up etc. within a couple of hours, everything had started looking better. even the new bubble and torch coral started coming out properly. all the corals did eventually. the helios took the longest but by yesterday afternoon they were almost fully out again. *breathes huge sigh of relief*

anyhoo, a lot of other things in the tank that came with the live rock are not doing well including green and brown buttons, feather dusters, sarcophyton etc. not to mention the morphs. oh, and the stars & stripes shrimp and the peppermint shrimp.

these things are getting there but ALL the morphs are dead. green ones red ones fluffie ones and purple ones :(

im surprised that the corals have survived but the morphs havent  are they more sensitive than i thought??

Umm, maybe we're using different vocab here, but what are "morphs"?

oh, lol i dunno what they are called if you done know them as that lol they come in green, red, purple and other colours. they have a foot like an anemone and when they get big they sides curl up and go wavy lol im thinking im describing this the worst way possible lol hang on ill find a pic

reef tank

this isnt my tank, tis just a random pic i found that had some in it. its the purple and green things on the front right of the pic lol when i got them, they were called morphs. but i was told they were pretty hardy. obviously not too hardy if the bubble coral made it and they didnt. they are all dead now. well i assume they are anyway as they have kinda shrivelled up and gone brown around the edges. i have taken them out of the tank and put them in a container of saltwater for now. there are also ones called fluffie morphs which kinda look similar to a hammer coral excelt they are green at the base and have brown tentacle thingys

Do you mean Actinodiscus mushrooms? If so, when stressed they'll become exceptionally shriveled up and brown looking just like you describe. You'd be surprised though, in a day or two they'll look just fine, dont loose hope for them yet.

ah, so thats what they are called :) must be a nickname or something for them

guess ill just wait a couple of days then and see what happens :) will be good if they survive. there are wuite a few of them.

yeah, they're generally called "Coralimorph anemones", hence the morph nickname. Makes sense now :)

ah hah glad to know i dont sound like so much of a wally after all lol

so basically, they are just sooking cause it was cold and when they have warmed up and stopped sooking, they will come back out :) hopefully this happens anyways so i dont have to rebuild my morph collection :)

thanks for your help. there is always so much to learn about everything :good:
